What was once considered an impossibility will soon become a reality for the Wagga Wagga community.

That was the clear message given by technology experts at the cutting-edge conference Telstra Wagga Wagga: Beyond 2050, which drew a large crowd to the CSU Playhouse.

Committee 4 Wagga, with Region Media, held our third Welcome to Wagga event at the Murrumbidgee Turf Club Members Lounge on Friday 19th May.

New residents were joined by Aunty Mary Atkinson, Mayor Cr Dallas Tout and representatives of various organisations within our community including Wagga Wagga South Lions Club, Wagga Wagga Netball , the Riverina Producers Markets, Region Development Australia - Riverina and Miss Wagga Wagga, Kate Pevere. The focus of the evening was on making and enhancing connections within our community and to our city.

Telstra’s hierarchy made Wagga Wagga its present as they looked to the future of digital technology and connectivity.

Led by CEO Vicki Brady, the Telstra executive team met with a number of Wagga business representatives as they conducted site visits in the city and its surrounds last week.

Committee 4 Wagga partnered with Telstra to hold a cocktail party at the Magpies Nest function centre.

More than 100 guests – largely from Committee 4 Wagga’s membership base and the Telstra team – attended the event.

Wagga Wagga is grappling with a two to three-year lag in its housing supply, according to the newly released 2021-22 Land Monitor Report.

Housing Industry Association (HIA) Wagga chairman Tony Balding cited the shortfall as one of the major points raised by the report, which was launched at the Wagga RSL Club on Friday.

“We only put out 171 blocks this year. This is normally around 300 or 400 and it’s where we’ve got a two or three-year lag,” Mr Balding said.

Committee 4 Wagga hosted our second Welcome to Wagga Wagga event at the Botanic Gardens. New residents to Wagga Wagga were joined by Dr Joe McGirr MP (State Member for Wagga Wagga), Cr Amelia Parkins, Aunty Cheryl Penrith, and Committee 4 Wagga members.

New residents and their families enjoyed a picnic at the Botanic Gardens Brolga Pond while mixing with Committee 4 Wagga members and invited guests.

Wagga Wagga’s housing, transport and skilled labour issues were addressed when CommBank chief executive officer Matt Comyn was a special guest at a community breakfast held at the Rules Club.

Matt joined Committee 4 Wagga chair Adam Drummond and Founding Director at Sureway Employment and Training Judy Galloway on a panel facilitated by CommBank Riverina Executive Manager Nick Abraham.

The Wagga Wagga Business Summit held in April was attended by just under 100 local business, industry and government leaders. The calibre of speakers, chairs and Q&A sessions from the floor in addition to the positive feedback following the day-long event speaks to the value of this event for all those in attendance.

Leaders in the freight and logistics sectors descended on Wagga Wagga to attend the two-day Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) Conference.

More than 170 industry representatives – the majority travelling from Sydney and Melbourne – heard from a range of experts at the Wagga RSL Club on August 30 and 31.

Last week Committee 4 Wagga launched our 10 Years Strong documentary. The documentary showcases the people and achievements of Committee 4 Wagga over the last decade!

The documentary provides a wonderful snapshot of the projects Committee 4 Wagga has championed and supported.

Committee 4 Wagga will be preparing a detailed wrap up of the recent Business Summit which was attended by just under 100 local business, industry and government leaders recently. We were extremely thrilled with the calibre of speakers, chairs and Q&A sessions from the floor as well as the positive feedback following the day long event.

Committee 4 Wagga members recently joined Tony and Matt Balding from Accelerated Homes for a tour of their manufacturing facility in Bomen and one of their completed homes at 24 Monash Avenue in Mount Austin.

The inspiration for Accelerated Homes began with the 2003 Canberra Fires and since then the company is expanding into other areas such as social housing.

Committee for Wagga held our first Welcome to Wagga event at the Charles Sturt University Winery last night (Wednesday 30th March 2022).

New residents were joined by Aunty Mary Atkinson, Deputy Mayor Cr Jenny McKinnon, Cr Kevin Foley, and WWCC General Manager Peter Thompson. The focus of the evening was on making and furthering connections within our community and to our city.

Committee for Wagga celebrated 10 years since our incorporation in February! Members and guests joined us at The Riverine Club as we reflected and celebrated our achievements.

Over the last ten years, Committee for Wagga has partnered with our members, the community, business, and all levels of Government for the betterment of our city.

An independent report reflecting the community’s experiences of housing and the planning system in regional NSW has been released by the NSW Government. The Findings Report details feedback from consultation with more than 500 people, councils and representatives from community groups across regional NSW.

Thank you to all members who attended and contributed to the Members’ Strategic Planning Session held on Thursday 9th September 2021. This session was an opportunity for members to contribute to the future direction of Committee for Wagga and voice their opinion on our projects, current and future.
