Wagga School Leaders Program Module 5
Moving Forward as Ambassadors for Wagga Wagga
The students commenced the final module of the Wagga School Leaders Program with a reflective discussion in pairs at Transgrid discovery Hub. Working together they explored a series of questions designed to encourage thoughtful reflection on their leadership journey and personal growth throughout the program.
Students discussed their emotions as they approached the final day of the program, what they were most looking forward to, how they would describe their leadership style, and how they felt about the upcoming graduation ceremony and presentations. They also reflected on what they were most proud of achieving during the program and what they had learned about themselves along the way.
The final module focused on bringing together the skills, knowledge and experiences developed throughout the year and applying them in a practical setting while reflecting on the lessons learned through each of the previous modules.
Jum Lamont commenced the day with a voice and presentation skills session to prepare students for the rehearsal of their graduation presentations. The students embraced the activities with enthusiasm and anticipation as they refined their public speaking skills ahead of the evening’s graduation ceremony.
The presentation rehearsal provided an opportunity for students to receive constructive feedback from both their peers and facilitators. They were encouraged to evaluate not only the content of their presentations but also their delivery techniques, body language and overall communication effectiveness. Jum acknowledged the remarkable growth demonstrated by the group, noting the significant improvements he had observed throughout the program and highlighting the strong connection between effective communication and leadership.
Over lunch, students participated in their final mentoring session. For 45 minutes, mentors shared valuable life experiences, leadership insights and lessons learned throughout their own journeys. Students were encouraged to ask questions and gain advice from experienced leaders, further strengthening the relationships that had been built throughout the program.
To conclude the day, students participated in an impromptu reflection session where they were invited to speak openly and honestly about their experiences, with no time limits or predetermined structure. This activity provided an opportunity for students to articulate what they had learned and how they had grown during the program.
A particularly powerful aspect of the discussion was the students’ reflection on how differently they would have approached the same task at the beginning of the year. Their confidence, authenticity and willingness to share personal insights demonstrated the significant personal development that had taken place. Students listened attentively, offered positive feedback to one another and spoke with genuine respect and integrity.
As the group departed that afternoon, there was a strong sense of anticipation and excitement ahead of the graduation dinner later that evening. The final module provided a fitting conclusion to an outstanding program, leaving students well equipped to continue their leadership journeys and serve as positive ambassadors for Wagga Wagga into the future.
