Wagga School Leaders Program Module 4
Our school leaders had a day of focusing on and learning more about Health and Wellbeing on May 7th at Charles Sturt University. The student-led Energizer involved an active team game with some running around in the fresh air. Today our program presenter Jum led the students through a series of discussions and deep dives on resilience, energy, energy recovery and being our best selves, culminating in students developing their own resilience action plan. After lunch Scott Reardon, Temora’s own Paralympian, also took students through his journey in courage, determination, perseverance, and inner strength after losing his leg in a farm accident at a young age. His messages for the students included: mindfulness, gratitude, and the importance of surrounding yourself with people who lift you up.
“It's the inner resilience that causes us to bounce back from either minor or major setbacks, keep moving forward with determination, and learn from our failures which is critical. Not only does being resilient build personal growth, but it also enhances the quality of our overall well-being which enables individuals to navigate the ups and downs we go through individually in life with courage and resilience.” PR
“Before module 4, I thought of resilience as a person’s ability to “get back up and keep having a go”. I now understand that resilience is not only your performance “in the moment”, but also how a person prepares themself for future situations and how well they can reflect on it with or without other people.” AG
“When Scott talked about finding your purpose, your why, to me it really stood out that everything and every aspect is all connected. You need to know and be able to connect with your purpose and what you want to do. It is most definitely not going to be always smooth sailing but knowing your why can help you to further build on that to move onto how you are going to do it and what way.” MP
