The Pro Patria Centre Launch

The Pro Patria Centre officially launched today (Thursday 17th March 2022) with the exchange of contracts between the Carmelite Sisters Monastery and the Pro Patria Wagga Wagga Property Trust.

Committee 4 Wagga are proud supporters of this centre which aims to “restore, regenerate and empower our veteran and first responder community with ongoing support, strategies and skills for life beyond service”.

Committee 4 Wagga Chair Adam Drummond, Sister Maria Hughes of the Carmelite Sisters, Pro Patria Property Trust Chair Dr Gordon Saggers, Pro Patria Board Member and veteran Jason “Frosty” Frost and Pro Patria Committee Member and Committee 4 Wagga Secretary David Bardos.

Sister Maria gave a commanding and inspirational speech about the importance of connections within our community to provide ongoing support and rehabilitation for those who have served our country from defence personnel to our first responders on the frontline.

Speaking from experience Jason Frost highlighted the need to refer to mental health as brain health - “it’s not just mental health - it’s all over health - if your brain’s healthy your body is healthy - we need to address these stigmas”.

Committee 4 Wagga Chair, Adam Drummond, stated '“this type of facility in our city, a city known for its defence roots, needs the urgent attention of our government leaders at all three tiers and the support of the community as a whole, to ensure our service men and women, and our frontline workers can trust they have somewhere to go when they need it the most.

'“This isn’t just a referral service for those who have sustained injuries or suffer from conditions such as PTSD - this is an innovative and holistic approach to wellness and health. This gives so many people hope that they can survive and thrive again within our community - quite often an environment that is in stark contrast from their duties of service.”
