Wagga School Leaders Program Module 2 2022

Module 2 of the Wagga School Leaders Program was held on Tuesday 22nd March at Borambola Sport and Recreation Centre. This module focused on strengthening the connections between the Wagga School Leader Program participants through meaningful, fun activities, learning about different leadership and communication styles, and providing the students with the opportunity to present to their peers.

Setting the scene, and individual intentions, for the day.

The morning commenced with the students selecting a ‘leadership word’. Each student’s leadership word is an attribute that resonates with them, their leadership journey, and the examples of effective leadership they have observed.

The Borambola staff then lead the group through a discussion about the different leadership styles. Students were asked to reflect on these styles as they completed various ‘survivor style’ activities designed to challenge them both physically and mentally. Each activity required the students to employ effective communication and teamwork.

Based on observations made during the survivor style activities, the Borambola team provided feedback about leadership and effective communication to the students which focussed on the need to place yourself in the position of the person receiving your instructions in order to provide clear directions as a leader.

During the afternoon session Claire Markwick, the 2022 program facilitator, provided the students with presentation tips designed to assist in delivering a clear and effective message to their audience.

The students then presented to their peers about their leadership word and why they had selected it.

Modules 3 and 4 of the Wagga School Leaders Program will be held on 5th April 2022.
