Wagga School Leaders Program Module 3, 2021
C4W’s School Leaders Program completed module 3 last Wednesday at the Charles Sturt University. The morning started at Charles Sturt University with in inspirational quote by Maya Angelou “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel”.
Dr Jo Esler from Charles Sturt University then joined the group and assisted the students to learn about their personality type through a series of questions and exercises. The questions followed Littauer’s theory developed in the early 1990’s that consists of four specific personality types: Sanguine, Melancholic, Choleric and Phlegmatic. Jo highlighted that there are many ways to lead and many types of leaders. Jo continued by sharing that leaders come from all personality traits and emphasised that the point of the exercise is to be empowered by the knowledge that comes from understanding yourself and others.
The students were invited to present their leadership shields, an exercise initiated in Module 1. The details included in the shield designs evidenced the student’s commitment to the program as it was clear that each program participant had directed much energy and thought towards what their shield represented. Incorporated in the leadership shield was the student’s leadership word which the students had in an earlier module been asked to consider a word that had personal relevance for them. They shared their word and explained why it had been chosen.
The students discussed leadership styles and qualities they admire in leaders both on a personal level and in the broader context of the world, such as Jacinta Ardern the Prime Minister of New Zealand and her ability to lead with humanity.
