WAGGA SCHOOL LEADERS PROGRAM MODULE 1 2021

The 2021 Wagga School Leaders Program commenced yesterday with Module 1 being completed at the Charles Sturt University. Seventeen enthusiastic students arrived ready to learn new skills and gain confidence to become leaders of the future.

During the day students participated in the Launch of the 2021 Wagga School Leaders Program where they met, interviewed and conversed with various community leaders including: State Member for Wagga Wagga, Dr Joe McGirr, MP, Kay Hull AM, Patron of Committee for Wagga, Kapooka Army Recruit Training Centre Commandant, Colonel Jim Hammett and Judy Galloway, inaugural Chair of Committee for Wagga.

Module 1 objectives were to:

·         share why the Wagga School Leaders Program is important and to communicate the role of the program to developing future leaders/ambassadors.

·         discuss purpose & values and their meaning & impact on individual choices & actions.

·         commence developing a leadership shield, a medium for the students to communicate who they are, where they fit within family & community and the values that shape them as developing leaders.

·         provide guidance regarding effective communication, connection and social engagement.

·         provide the fundamental knowledge to understand the media and an introduction to the skills required when speaking to the media and the public.

The day was concluded with a debriefing, giving the students the opportunity to discuss and reflect on what they had learned during the day.

Module 2 will take place at ARTC Kapooka on Tuesday 10th March.

The 2021 Wagga School Leaders Program is funded by the NSW Government via the Stronger Country Communities Fund in conjunction with Enirgi Power Storage, Estella Rise, Sureway Employment & Training, Bush & Campbell Accountants & WDF Professionals and is supported by Charles Sturt University and ARTC-Kapooka.
