Staff in the Spotlight – Jack Burness, Huon
Jack Burness, Project Engineer
How long have you lived in Wagga and what brought you here/why have you stayed?
I’ve lived in Wagga Wagga for most of my life. I grew up here, moved away to complete my Bachelor of Civil Engineering, and returned after graduating to begin my career. I enjoy the lifestyle and the balance Wagga offers. It’s a great place to build both a career and a home.
What is your background?
I completed a Bachelor of Civil Engineering and have been working in the civil construction industry since graduating. My career has focused on infrastructure projects, with work on industrial and residential subdivisions, rail, road and bridge construction.
How long have you been involved with the business and how did that occur?
I’ve been with Huon in some capacity for a bit over five years now, and full time for almost four years. When I was at University, Huon offered a work integrated learning scholarship, which I was fortunate enough to receive. That was my first real introduction to the industry, and since then, I've had the opportunity to work alongside a great team and contribute to a range of challenging and rewarding projects.
What are your achievements?
Professionally, I'm proud of working on significant infrastructure projects within the region. It is nice to be able to contribute to the community and see the results. Personally, I've recently been renovating my home, which has been a rewarding challenge and a great opportunity to learn new skills outside of work.
Hobbies and interests:
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time camping and getting outdoors whenever I can. I'm also a keen NRL fan, although being a Bulldogs fan makes that rather difficult at times.
