WAGGA SCHOOL LEADEERS PROGRAM MODULE 3

CSU was again the site for our Wagga School Leaders Program on April 1st, 2025. Module 3 focused on the various aspects of interpersonal skills and how to improve them. The students explored interpersonal skills both verbal and non-verbal methods of communication. The cohorts have been challenged to seek out opportunities to build relationships, think about ways to improve interaction with others and observe other positive interpersonal interactions.

Students also learned about the DISC Model of communication and behaviour, the characteristics of each style as well as effective things to do and what to avoid in communicating with each style. Each participant then self-selected their dominant style and had a little fun helping each other with their thoughts on the selections.

Today was the first day the participants got to meet their Mentors. Mentors from local businesses and government donate their time generously to work with the students, offering wisdom from their own work and life experience as well as ongoing support.

Some key takeaways from the first session with the mentors were being able to communicate effectively is an important skill as a leader. Learning about the importance of work-life balance. Another piece of advice was the align your passion with your career goals.

Another mentor spoke of having an optimistic outlook on life, to look for a “diamond” to take with you each day despite it sometimes being easier to find twenty “stones”, this aligns perfectly with the school leaders “Growth Mindset”.
