Inland Growth Summit - Housing 2021
Committee for Wagga was proud to support the Inland Growth Summit - Housing 2021 hosted by Regional Development Australia - Riverina and Orana in August 2021. As we push for sustainable planning and growth, this critical discussion focussed on several issues that are reflected across large sections of Regional NSW and Australia.
The state’s housing crisis was the hot topic focusing on possible solutions for Inland Australia.
RDA Riverina CEO and Director of Regional Development Rachel Whiting said ‘A multitude of factors was pushing housing availability to its limits and the summit examined why inland areas are in crisis, what can be done to resolve the problem and who is responsible for addressing the issue.’
“There is a severe shortage of properties to rent or buy which is causing problems across the community. It’s incredibly important to be examining housing supply and demand and how it impacts residential development and growth opportunities,” she said.
“We love living in regional Australia, but housing availability is really being stretched, so we need to look at some solutions. This is having a resounding effect on communities where residents who can’t find a home have to move somewhere else.”
The featured a number of speakers including the Hon Nola Marino, Assistant Minister for Regional Development and Territories; as well as Garry Fielding who has just been announced as chair of the NSW Government's Regional Housing Taskforce.
178 people attended the online event which was sponsored by Committee 4 Wagga, Wagga Wagga City Council, HIA and Argyle Housing and supported by RivJO and REROC, Region media and nbn. Adam Bannister’s local events support Business, Pyrus, were engaged to ensure the smooth running of the online event.
