From the CEO's Desk
In these challenging times Committee for Wagga remains focused on our long-term vision, championing positive change for Wagga Wagga. A key part of this is harnessing the energy from last year’s Wagga Wagga 100,000 seminar. The 20 Year Economic Vision for Regional NSW, released by the State Government, identified Wagga Wagga as a growth centre with a population target of 100,000 by 2038. The Wagga Wagga 100,000 seminar recognized the need to establish a working group to direct our city’s approach to this goal.
In the six months since the seminar, our region has faced the challenges of bushfires and the COVID-19 pandemic, however the need for this group to provide direction and drive for the growth of the city, particularly regarding economic growth and connectivity, remains and is now even more important.
We continue to work with our local Member, Dr Joe McGirr MP, Wagga Wagga City Council, other business & representative groups and Department of Regional NSW to establish a collaborative working group to provide this guidance and are optimistic that this collaborative group will come to fruition in the very near future.
This group is also working with council to identify cost relief for businesses and managing a website to assist local businesses and the community with a single landing page for information on COVID-19 at a Local, State and Federal level. The webpage is now live and can be accessed from the following link:
In addition, a closed Facebook forum: ‘Live Local. Be Local.’ has been established by this workgroup for local business owners to facilitate effective communication across our business community.
