From the CEO’s desk

It wasn’t too long ago that we were preparing for the March State election and we are now already approaching the May 18 Federal election.  Congratulations to Independent Dr Joe McGirr on his re-election for a full term in the Legislative Assembly seat of Wagga Wagga and National Party representative Wes Fang in his re-election to the Legislative Council.  In a little over two weeks our current National Party Federal Member for Riverina and Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Michael McCormack will be vying for re-election, opposed by a relatively small field of candidates.

One of the impacts of the pre-election period, other than election announcements, is that progress on significant projects slows as government and departments go into caretaker mode.  As a general rule, no significant new decisions or initiatives, appointments, or contractual undertakings should be made during the caretaker period.  We look forward to resumption of momentum on significant work in progress projects for the City of Wagga Wagga now that the State Government agencies have returned to full operation.

We are about to enter an exciting phase where the Wagga Wagga community will see visible activity in the construction of a number of economic and recreational infrastructure projects which have been the result of much planning, advocacy and navigation through the government processes over the last decade.  There are still a number of very significant projects in the pipeline that will have significant economic and community for the City and the Committee 4 Wagga will continue to advocate for the best possible outcome for the long-term benefit of the community.

Concurrently, if we are to ensure we have a sustainable & liveable city which is a preferred place to live, work and visit, we need to increase focus on policy and infrastructure issues in the social, community, medical and emergency services spheres, in order to ensure we have the necessary level of support services to cater for Wagga Wagga’s growth to a city of 100,000 people.  We must have support from State Government level to ensure we have a ‘people’ plan in support of the 20-year economic vision.

I would like to welcome Sean O’Hara and the team at The Farmers Home Hotel as a new member of the Committee 4 Wagga.

With the view to continuing to improve our member communications, the Committee 4 Wagga has recently rolled out our new website platform and we encourage members and visitors to explore the fresh new layout and functionality.  Integration with social media platforms and presentation on mobile devices has been improved significantly.  Connectivity with current and prospective members has been vastly improved on the website.  We have also included a ‘Links’ tab to provide members with contact details for local business groups, partners, government agencies and elected representatives.  We are also currently working on integrating an event registration portal to simplify the communication of, and registration for member events.  The Executive would like to receive your feedback, which can be provided through the ‘Contact Us’ / ‘Send Us A Message’ link on the webpage.

Please feel free to ring me or drop me an email with any feedback and ideas that you would like to share. I can be contacted on the CEO email address (ceo@c4wagga.com.au) or on my mobile 0412 244529.
