CBD Levee Upgrades

Levee bank flood protection for the CBD remains a C4W high priority project.

The CBD levee bank is to be upgraded in two stages. Stage one of the upgrades is advanced, stage two tenders are yet to be released.

Stage two CBD levee upgrade tenders were to be released in April and then May, at time of writing, the tender documents are yet to be released by Council. 

Part of the stage two CBD levee upgrade includes the incorporation of ‘sheet piling’. Sheet piling occurs where there is limited space on the existing levee and not enough room to use earth to raise the height of the levee. A 30-metre demonstration stretch of the sheet piling has been installed on the levee bank close to the intersection of Thompson and Tarcutta Streets (refer to picture).
