Wagga School Leaders Program Module 3

Committee 4 Wagga School Leaders Program completed Module 3 - Me and leadership in a broader context on Tuesday 5 April. The morning started with the students interviewing each other on route to Charles Sturt University, discussing “Their Hidden Potential”, as highlighted in their Clarity 4D personal profiles. Students were asked to consider what resonated with them, what they disagreed with and how each person’s traits differ.

Upon arrival at CSU “Attitude is Everything” was the morning session presentation. The students were asked to consider how their attitude effects their actions and their approach to challenges. The impact of our thoughts and feeling was discussed - we are not our thoughts; our thoughts and feelings are not facts and nothing has meaning except the meaning we put to it.

The students were invited to present their leadership shields, an exercise initiated in Module 1. The details included in the shield designs demonstrated the student’s commitment to the program as it was clear that each program participant had directed a great deal of energy and thought towards their shield. This gave each student another opportunity to work on their presentation skills.

Over a working lunch the students took part in the first mentoring session of the program. The students were mentored by leaders of the Wagga Wagga community. This provided an invaluable opportunity for the students to seek advice from their mentors on effective leadership based on their mentor’s life experiences. Both mentor and students will have another opportunity in June to connect again.

The afternoon concluded with a session on “Human Durability” which was presented by Derrick McManus. In the session, the students explored mindset, frameworks and systems to help manage their mind and to feel more confident to tackle challenging situations in all facets of life.
