Wagga School Leaders Program Module 2

The ARTC Kapooka module is intended to challenged the students and develop teamwork skills, which is exactly the results we received on our recent visit. The students learn about their strengths and weaknesses, develop trust and got to know each other better.

The group were formally welcomed to Kapooka by the Commandant, Colonel Jim Hammett who spoke about his experiences in both life and the Army and passed on advice about effective leadership. Each student valued the opportunity and asked a number of insightful questions relating to the key messages offered by the Colonel.

The students spent a full day having a glimpse into the life of an army recruit including being kitted out in army fatigues. During the day students were exposed to the challenges and opportunities of life as a soldier, which included activities to challenge both physical and mental strength. The students improved their ability to work collaboratively and operate under pressure. Every student embraced the challenges and participated in each activity, including climbing and abseiling the 15 metre tower.

Several of the students were given the opportunity to participate in media interviews conducted by Wagga based television and print media reporters also pushing them out of their comfort zone.

Committee 4 Wagga and the participating students would like to thank the Army Recruit Training Centre for the continuing support of the Wagga School Leaders Program.
